James and Louise talk about their journey to adopt siblings

James and Louise had been trying for a family for several years and due to existing health conditions, had discussed adoption as a possibility. After they were told it wasn’t possible for Louise to have a child, and after an upsetting experience with the local authority in their area, they contacted One Adoption after seeing an advert on Facebook. Having overcome many hurdles they are now the proud parents of siblings, Christopher (six) and Alice (four). This is their adoption story.

Adopting after child loss - Harriet and Dan's story

For Harriet and Dan starting a family wasn’t easy. After losing their two birth children due to a genetic disorder they revisited the idea of adoption.

This is their story:

We had a long phone call with a social worker and were instantly put at ease, our fears about adoption were put to rest as we were told the facts about the process, that it wasn’t complicated but that it could be lengthy, but suitably so.

Charles and Sophie's story

Charles and Sophie felt they didn’t want to take the risk of a child inheriting a debilitating disease.

‘We’d been married for about five years when we decided to explore the possibility of adopting a child. Our initial contact with our local adoption service quickly led to a home visit and then we were invited to attend a preparatory course. ’
